Global Health Mentorship Programme launched

This June, we launched a new cohort of the Global Health Mentorship Programme! This programme matches early-career drug discovery researchers with academic and industry experts across Africa and Europe to support the personal and professional development of young talent in Africa.

The Global Health Mentorship Programme has been organised for several years by the H3D Foundation, a RAFIKI project partner based in Cape Town, South Africa. This recent launch marks the programme’s fifth iteration, and the first funded through RAFIKI.

To launch the new cohort, 25 mentees and a pool of 38 mentors joined us for an online introductory session earlier this month. All mentees and mentors were invited to share about themselves and listen to keynote addresses by two of our mentors, Dr Beatriz Baragana, Principal Investigator and the apicomplexan portfolio leader in the Drug Discovery Unit, University of Dundee (DDU), and Dr Olawale Salami, head of project management and feasibility at SGS Health Sciences.

Once mentorship pairs have been finalised, the mentorship programme will run through June 2026. Pairs will additionally have the chance to meet in-person at a Scientific Leadership Workshop in South Africa, planned for October 2025.
