EU-Africa Research Infrastructure Alliance to Foster Infectious Disease research, Knowledge sharing and Innovation

New project on the map: Supporting drug discovery in sub-Saharan Africa

Last week, we celebrated the start of our newest Horizon Europe project RAFIKI with a fruitful kick-off meeting in Accra, Ghana.

Short for “EU-Africa Research Infrastructure Alliance to Foster Infectious Disease research, Knowledge sharing and Innovation”, RAFIKI is bringing together a consortium of drug discovery experts to support fast and sustainable growth of the drug discovery community in sub-Saharan Africa. Our mission is to bring opportunities and build capacities for drug discovery researchers in this region focusing on global infectious diseases.

Our consortium gathered in person for the first time last week to discuss the first opportunities we will offer under this project – including fellowship exchanges, mentorship programs, training courses, and compound library curation.

As the coordinators of this project, EU-OPENSCREEN looks forward to strengthening our collaborations in this region, including with our RAFIKI project partners:

  • H3D Foundation
  • Drug Discovery Unit, University of Dundee
  • Drug Innovation Group (DIG), University of Ghana
  • Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI)
  • Drug Discovery and Development Centre (H3D), University of Cape Town
  • Stellenbosch University
  • The University Of Zambia (UNZA)
  • Medicines for Malaria Venture
